the pains of being pure at heart - heart in yr heartbreak

( heart in yr heartbreak, or a video for those unconvinced that pains are the most endearing, self-aware dudes in indie-pop. )

while waiting for a lecture, i watched theneedledrop’s review for pains’ belong, in which he describes the album as like ’turning your heard towards the sky, and dancing in the sun for an hour’.

i think that’s a near perfect summary of belong, because it’s the same kind of goofball praise that kip bergman would give about his own favourite bands, growing up. i think that’s also part of why we love pains so much— we don’t think of them as a ‘band’, but rather as ‘people in a band’. if listening to music is like an honest sort of conversation, then belong is like the nicest conversation you’d ever had, and with the nicest people you’re sure to ever meet.
