asobi seksu - perfectly crystal
probably can’t argue with me on this one. the best thing about prim, shoegaze-y pop is that you can’t really hear when the lyrics are kinda terrible (i.e. ‘fluorescent butterflies, softly through the air / angel sighs suround me’). essentially, this leaves you all the more able to enjoy the genre’s customary snare rhythms, sleigh bells, distortion and choruses like post-garage guitar leads.
but for serious, asobi seksu’s fluorescence is actually a pretty great album, if you’re into bands like tamaryn, papercuts, the pains of being pure at heart and m83. pitchfork is just probably really racist against asians, or something. even if those asians are from brooklyn.
